Speaking up for the civil service: Your opportunity to be a member of the FDA’s Executive Committee

February 9, 2018

Make a difference to the running of the union by becoming a member of the FDA’s Executive Committee (EC). There has never been a more important time to be involved with the FDA to speak up for the civil service.

Becoming a member of the EC is incredibly rewarding as it gives you the opportunity to make a difference to the running of the FDA, gives you the opportunity to network with other members from across the civil service, and helps you develop your skills, knowledge and experience. New members of the committee are well-supported by staff of the FDA and by fellow committee members.

Organisations that have a diverse leadership are more successful, and decision-making becomes more robust as it benefits from the widest possible range of skills, knowledge and experience. The FDA has been at the forefront of increasing the diversity of leadership in the civil service, including our prestigious Women into Leadership and BAME into Leadership events. The FDA itself is no different. We are stronger and more effective when we have diverse leadership. We value all our members’ skills, knowledge and experience and would like to see all members become more involved.

Members are therefore encouraged to seek nomination, particularly if you are from a group currently under-represented on the Executive Committee.

If you are thinking about standing for the EC and would like to know more about what is involved and how the committee works, please contact Amy Leversidge, Assistant General Secretary at amy@fda.org.uk or 02074015555.
