Real reason for suspension
Responding to reports in Wednesday’s Guardian that Jeff Chandra, Goodhope Hospital’s chief executive, had been suspended for "unorthodox manipulation" of waiting lists, senior FDA official Paul Whiteman said: "This allegation is pure speculation. Jeff Chandra has been suspended, but there is no suggestion that this relates to a deliberate act or sanctioning of manipulation, either for the personal benefit of Mr Chandra or for the improvement of performance indicators. "This is a particularly complicated case. It is a shame that this suspension will lead people to draw premature conclusions regarding Mr Chandra’s character. We will be looking very closely at the process applied to Mr Chandra to ensure that it is fair and satisfies the rules of natural justice." Ends
