Senior Civil Service pay award disappointing - 12 February 2004

The FDA today welcomed the publication of the Public Administration Select Committee's report and draft Civil Service Bill. FDA general secretary Jonathan Baume said: "This is an opportunity for ministers to consolidate trust and integrity at the heart of government. It is 150 years since the Northcote Trevelyan report called for a Civil Service Act, and it is time for the government to end its prevarication on this matter. It is now time to deliver." "In a period of tremendous change, the Act will reinforce the civil service's values and ethics, and good governance, while enabling the government's ambitious programme of reform to be implemented with confidence throughout the civil service."
