FDA agrees to ballot on TUC-wide Day of Action

The FDA and other public sector unions yesterday agreed a joint statement from TUC General Secretary Brendan Barber announcing a Day of Action on 30 November 2011.

Following this announcement, the FDA is to begin the process of organising a ballot of members for action on 30 November.

The union's general secretary, Jonathan Baume, said: "This is not a decision that has been taken lightly. Our hope is that the Government will now recognise that genuine and comprehensive negotiations are the only way to make real progress and avoid a dispute. We remain committed to a negotiated settlement and we will do all we can to avoid industrial action becoming a necessity."
