FDA celebrates International Women’s Day

Today - Tuesday 8 March 2011 - marks the 100th anniversary of the first International Women's Day (IWD). In 1911, more than one million women and men attended IWD rallies campaigning for women's rights to work, vote, be trained, hold public office and end discrimination, and IWD has been celebrated each year since then. This year's theme is 'Equal access to education, training and science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women'.

For more on the events organised to mark this date - as well as Women's History Month in March - please go to the Women's History Month website. A timeline of women in the civil service can be accessed at: A Celebration of Women in the Civil Service.

To celebrate IWD, mark Women's History Month - and to launch the 2011 Women into Leadership event to be held in September 2011 - the FDA is holding a reception for all women members and other invited guests on 16 March 2011. For more information, please click on the following link: .
