FDA highlights role of public servants in responding to riots aftermath

The FDA has highlighted the role of Crown Prosecution Service staff and other public sector workers who have been at the forefront of the Government's response to the widespread public disorder across England in early August.

Paul Whiteman, the FDA's national officer representing prosecutors and senior managers in the CPS, said: "Members are currently working a full day and then volunteering to staff night and weekend courts to ensure that the CPS plays its full part in helping communities recover from the horror of the past couple of weeks."

He added: "With a possible 4,000 cases to follow nationally, now is the time to really appreciate the dedication of these public servants."

The response of CPS staff has come at a time when the department is facing a 25% cut in size, and prosecutors' and managers' pay is being frozen and their pensions are coming under attack.
