FDA introduces new Health and Safety courses

The FDA has developed - in partnership with the TUC - four-day courses for health and safety representatives, delivered in two, two-day parts. The first course took place at FDA head office in central London during late January and early February 2010.

The course was attended by 17 new reps and organised by Jawad Raza, the FDA national officer who has recently taken over responsibility for Health and Safety.

The courses concentrate on how to resolve Health and Safety issues, facility time, legislation, inspections, risk assessments and how to use Health and Safety as an organising tool to recruit new members.

Raza said: "Health and Safety is a key priority for the FDA, and I am delighted with the number of new reps trained. FDA Health and Safety reps play a key role in supporting members' interests across the civil service, and we need to build on the success of this course by providing training for more reps."

The course is part of an ongoing programme of training, with future dates to be circulated to members shortly. If you are interested in becoming a health and safety rep, would like to attend the training sessions or would just like further information, please contact Jawad Raza at jawad@fda.org.uk.
