FDA responds on BBC Wales Today to expenses review announcement

FDA national officer Paul Neilson appeared yesterday evening on BBC Wales Today responding to the announcement of a review of the expenses system for civil servants in the Welsh Assembly Government.

He said that while it was legitimate that taxpayers should know where their money is being spent, "I think we do need to draw a difference between the expenses of civil servants and the expenses of MPs - where there were obviously some irregularities going on".

Earlier in the day, a spokesperson for Welsh Assembly Government permanent secretary Dame Gillian Morgan said that the review would ensure the expenses system is appropriate and provided "transparency and continued value for money".

Cabinet Secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell published his expenses for the April-June period at the end of June and said that 250 senior civil servants would publish their expenses in due course.
