The FDA's general secretary, Jonathan Baume, appeared on Saturday morning's BBC Breakfast rejecting the proposals for a public sector pensions cap of £50,000 put forward by Terry Rooney MP, chair of the Work and Pensions Select Committee.
In the two interviews, which were picked up elsewhere in the media, Baume said that he was "genuinely puzzled" by the MP's comments, which would affect only a small number of civil servants as well as hospital consultants and some teachers.
He added: "There is no doubt that civil servants accept lower salaries in the knowledge that they have an entitlement to a stable pension. I think people will be genuinely angry if they feel that the contract they have signed - which has followed them through their careers - is about to be reneged upon."
