FDA skills training event 'very positively received'

The FDA ran a successful one-day training event for union learning representatives and other interested members in late July 2009.

The day - which took place at FDA head office in Waterloo, central London - was made up of a range of information-sharing talks and sessions. Tony Tighe from HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC) spoke about the benefits employers gain from having good relationships with unions, particularly in relation to skills. HMRC's Sam Mitha gave a brief history of the SCS and outlined the skills needed to become a senior civil servant, highlighting a need to be accurate. Tony Shaw from public sector training company Westminster Explained provided training sessions on mentoring, coaching and negotiating skills.

The FDA's Professional Skills for Government project manager Neil Rider said: "This is the latest in a number of seminars that have all been very positively received. Along with our partners Westminster Explained, we plan to continue to offer this kind of seminar in the future."
