A full FDA delegation of five members - plus three visitors - attended the 2011 TUC Black Workers' Conference, held at TUC Congress House in central London from 8 to 10 April. The theme of this year's conference was 'Protecting Public Services, Defending Black Communities'.
The delegation successfully moved the FDA's motion on the impact of public sector cuts on equality and diversity, and seconded a motion on the impact of government cuts, as well as speaking in support of other motions.
FDA equalities champion Sarah Guerra chaired the main panel discussion on the impact of public spending cuts on black workers. The panel included chief executive of Turning Point, Victor Adebowale; Sandra Kerr, director of Race for Opportunity; and Roger McKenzie, an assistant general secretary of Unison.
