FDA welcomes appointment of Frances O’Grady as TUC general secretary

The FDA has welcomed the election of Frances O'Grady as TUC general secretary. O'Grady, who was nominated by the FDA and the majority of other affiliated unions, takes over from Brendan Barber when he retires at the end of this year.

FDA general secretary Dave Penman said: "Brendan has exerted considerable influence beyond the TUC and he will be missed. Frances will bring a vast wealth of experience to the role and the appointment of the first woman to lead the TUC is an important and positive development."
