Job advert: MiP Communications Officer

Your chance to lead communications at the union for Britain’s health and care managers

Managers in Partnership (MiP) provides personal employment support and a public voice to over 6,000 health and care managers throughout the UK. We are a unique collaboration between the FDA and UNISON trade unions, launched in 2005.

Our members comprise a dedicated group of public servants, crucial to providing and improving health and care services. Sadly, managers are often denigrated by both sides of the political divide – to the detriment of patients and the NHS. As our communications officer you will both champion our members in the public debate, and keep them well informed about our campaigning and representative work on their behalf.

The MiP team is small, friendly and expert; we pride ourselves on punching above our weight. You will be our comms lead, working directly with our chief executive and in daily control of communications with members and the media.

Your role

You will lead communications with our members and external audiences – developing the format and impact of our digital communications, and supporting our national officers and activists with local and regional communications. As the head of our media operation, you will build relationships with journalists and create and manage our social media presence on Facebook and LinkedIn. And you will oversee the development and use of our brand new website, which we’re launching soon.

What we are looking for

You will have a track record of securing positive coverage by working with specialist and mainstream media; experience of overseeing and developing digital media such as websites, email communications and social media operations; and excellent writing and editing skills. You will have some research skills, and a commitment to the aims of Managers in Partnership and trade unions in general.
