An FDA delegation of two attended the 2011 STUC Black Workers' Conference, held at STUC Centre in Glasgow on 1 and 2 October. The theme of this year's conference was 'A Better Way for Black Workers'.
Affiliated unions submitted motions on a wide range of subjects, including pensions, specific equality duty, and the effect of the public sector cuts on black workers. Guest speakers included MSPs Humza Yousaf and Hanzala Malik.
FDA member and delegate Hakim Din was elected onto the STUC Black Workers Committee, which carries out a wide range of work on tackling racial discrimination and promoting race equality.
FDA national officer and delegate Jawad Raza said: "As always this was a very stimulating and inspiring conference which was evident from the passion with which delegates and speakers shared their experiences. It was an enjoyable experience which I would definitely recommend to all future delegates and visitors."
