TUC Disability Conference 2011 report

FDA delegates Ro Marsh, Roland Zollner, David Chrimes and Sarah Guerra attended the 2011 TUC Disability Conference, which was held at Congress House in central London on Wednesday 25 May and Thursday 26 May.

Zollner, on behalf of the FDA, moved a motion calling on the TUC to press for effective equality impact assessments before cuts are made, and for employers to continue to fulfil their legal requirements to provide reasonable adjustments for disabled employees. After a lively debate, the motion was carried unanimously.

Other debates centred on the Equality Act 2010 and access to justice for those with disabilities.

Ro Marsh, FDA equality officer, said: "It was good to be at the heart of this conference, with its wide mix of motions from affiliated unions, and interesting guest speakers."
