During the FDA's recruitment month, the union had a stall at the Government Economic Service's (GES) 2009 annual conference, which was held on 9 and 10 July at Warwick University. The conference included a series of workshops and sessions, involving speakers such as Evan Davies, presenter of BBC Radio 4's Today programme and former BBC economics editor; Charles Bean, deputy governor of the Bank of England; and cabinet secretary Sir Gus O'Donnell.

The FDA's national officer for economists in government, Ro Marsh, said: "The FDA is the only union that represents economists in government, so we were pleased to be able to have a notable presence, to raise our profile and recruit some new members."
