Union defends senior public sector pay in letter to Yorkshire Post

The Yorkshire Post has published a letter written by the FDA's general secretary, in response to its article of 27 May entitled "MPs' pay falls far behind 5,000 civil servants".

In his rebuttal, Jonathan Baume clarified that senior civil servants' pay is determined by an independent pay review body and that, while greater transparency and accountability for senior public servants' pay should be welcomed, picking arbitrary figures above which any public servant's pay is considered to be excessive does not take this debate forward.

The letter was published in the Yorkshire Post  on Saturday 30 May and can also be read on the newspaper's website by clicking on the following link: Fair pay for responsibility. Please note that the letter is half-way down the page.
