Union opens HMRC learning centre

The FDA - with backing from the Union Learning Fund - has opened a new learning centre at HM Revenue and Customs' central London Kingsway office. Around 60 staff attended the opening on 9 June 2011.

Fran Hunter, senior FDA learning rep, said those attending the event took away books, expressed interest in Open University courses and some had signed up to use the centre's computer facilities.

FDA skills project manager, Neil Rider, said: "This is a first for the FDA. When the FDA's skills project was launched we didn't envisage that this would be one of the results. The learning centre will deliver benefits for both the employer and employees.

"In particular, the centre will drive work around addressing the digital divide, which still exists for many staff."
