Partnership and engagement

We work in partnership with employers and members to improve workplaces and working lives.

We believe in engaging with employers - not working against them.  We think solutions are best reached through dialogue and clear consideration of the issues rather than tactical posturing. 

We facilitate working relationships - often serving as a mediator between staff and management - and help to implement change, explain new policies, and identify and address concerns before they become real problems.

For instance, we have helped government:

  • Merge Inland Revenue and Customs to create HMRC - more smoothly than had been anticipated for such a large reorganisation
  • Facilitate improvements in the CPS IT system, working with staff to identify problems and solutions
  • Design the Professional Skills for Government programme to help ensure it would benefit all civil servants, including specialists and management trainees
