Professional Skills for Government

Professional Skills for Government (PSG) is a programme launched by Government in 2005 to provide a framework of skills and competencies expected in civil servants, especially those who fill or aspire to fill management positions. PSG has since been broadened to include professionals and civil servants at all levels.

Standards for specific skills and levels of competency vary according to profession and job level, but generally these include:

leadership (common to all civil servants);
core competencies (common to all civil servants at your grade);
professional skills (which are specific to your profession and role);
