The FDA is the trade union representing professionals and managers in public service.

We believe that public services – and those who work in them – matter. We stand up for our members and strive to improve their working lives, and seek to help them make the most of their careers.

Our membership spans across civil service grades (from those on the HEO band, right through to Permanent Secretaries) and includes policy advisors, diplomats, lawyers, tax professionals, economists, statisticians and museum curators. We support clerks in Parliament. We represent solicitors and barristers in the Crown Prosecution Service and the Crown Office and Prosecutor Fiscal Service. In partnership with Unison we have founded MiP, and through this joint venture we help health and care managers.

We work with members across more than 200 Government departments, agencies, and arm’s-length bodies in England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and overseas.

We are proud of our history. For over one hundred years, we have been helping public servants. We have improved their pay, pensions, and working conditions; we have championed equality and fought discrimination; we have promoted civil service values, and were fundamental in the establishment of the civil service code.

As we look forward to our next hundred years, we continue to work with employers to get the best results for our members. We offer individuals help with all sorts of workplace issues, from dismissal to discrimination, and even take cases to court. We also take on the big issues of the day, battling attacks made against our members, wherever they may come from.
