Impartiality, integrity and professionalism run through the heart and soul of every civil servant.
These are the values that have guided the civil service, not only through our darkest days but also our brightest. When we have been fighting for our country's survival, to creating the NHS and our other most valued public services, civil servants have always been there, serving the governments of the day.
But these values are under attack. Both the left and the right are undermining the fabric of our impartial civil service. Civil servants advise and Minister decide, yet these days when politicians don't like the decisions they cowardly attack the civil service, even going as far as attacking individual civil servants.
It feels like not a week is going by without the FDA standing up for civil servants following an attack from an MP, a political commentator or even a Minister.
We cannot let these ideologically-driven attacks permanently undermine trust in the civil service. The values of impartiality, integrity and professionalism make our civil service one of the best in the world.
Defending civil servants and the civil service was part of our founding principles nearly 100 years ago and it is as important today as it was then.
So here is my promise — the FDA will always stand up for the impartiality, integrity and professionalism of civil servants and the civil service.
