Interested in becoming a rep? Already an activist, but looking to develop your skills?
Our reps training is designed to give you all the resources you need to help both your union and your fellow members. Delivered by FDA National Officers with a wealth of experience representing individuals from across public service, these one-day courses provide the opportunity to develop your skills and knowledge, and to network with fellow union members.
We currently have two types of training:
New reps training
This is the training day that we recommend all FDA members sign up to when they first become a workplace rep.
You will gain the knowledge and skills you need as a new rep, and there will be lots of time to talk through topics and answer questions.
The training day will cover:
- The structure of the FDA;
- The role and rights of an FDA workplace rep;
- Organising and recruiting members; and
- Supporting members in personal cases.
Refresher reps training
This training day is designed to give more experienced FDA workplace reps an opportunity to update and further develop their skills and understanding.
It will assume a degree of knowledge and experience, but there will still be lots of time for discussion and questions throughout the day.
The training day will cover:
- An update from the General Secretary;
- Building a stronger branch;
- Supporting members in more complex cases; and
- Bargaining and influencing.
How to book
To book yourself onto one of the training days, please email info@fda.org.uk with your name and which branch/section you are a workplace rep in.
The training days are free to attend and you are legally entitled to paid time off work to attend this training.
