Am I eligible to join the FDA?

FDA membership is open to all staff working in central government, civil service departments, agencies and non-departmental bodies - including in the devolved administrations - at levels equivalent to civil service HEO grade or above. We are also the only union to represent Fast Stream trainees and staff at equivalent training grades.

Staff at HEO and SEO or equivalent grades join the FDA's dedicated Keystone section, which focuses solely on representing civil service managers and professionals at these grades.

Membership is available to all grades working in the Foreign and Commonwealth office, who join the dedicated Diplomatic Services Association.

If you are a healthcare manager looking for personal representation, networking opportunities and influence, then you can join the more than 6,000 members of Managers in Partnership (MiP) - our independent joint venture with Unison.

FDA membership is also open to staff at equivalent levels working for private sector organisations which were formerly part of the public service and may be open to others in similar roles.

You are welcome to join the FDA at any time in your career. However, individuals joining the FDA with a pre-existing case are not entitled to advice or representation on that case. The best way to ensure that you are protected at work in the future is to join the FDA today.
