The FDA supports members throughout their careers in public service, from professional grades all the way through to Senior Civil Servant grades.
In addition to offering our members high-quality advice and representation, plus negotiating pay and pensions on their behalf, the FDA has a comprehensive offer of professional training and career development events to help them make the most of their careers.
FDA Learn has been providing high-quality learning and development to civil servants since 2008. Engaging with civil service employers, it has developed into a programme bespoke to civil servants’ needs across the whole of the UK, supporting on average 8,000-plus learners each year.
To coincide with our organising team’s Autumn Roadshow, events held at civil service offices across the UK showcasing what the FDA offers members, we are previewing some FDA Learn sessions, including free sign up to selected events this October and November, plus recordings from FDA Learn webinars:

Thinking deeply in a fast-paced world
2pm – 3pm, 24 August, via Crowdcast
This course will comprise a look at Behaviours examples actually submitted as part of job applications. These are successful and less successful examples (none of which we will be saying is a ‘perfect’ or ‘model’ example). The idea is to consider learning and why examples may have been more or less successful.

Our webinar will stimulate your thinking about the best crisis communications approaches, focusing on planning, leadership, language use, and media handling. Drawing from real-world scenarios, the session will encourage an interactive approach and collaborative problem-solving.
This webinar will support individuals who want to understand more about personal objective setting. The concept of objective setting is widely used in both personal development and as part of business development.
In this one-hour webinar, we’ll explore how to prepare yourself to deliver feedback effectively, including choosing the right time, place, and mindset. You’ll gain insight into how stress and emotional states impact how feedback is received, and how to navigate difficult or defensive reactions with confidence and empathy.
By joining the FDA, you’ll be standing alongside more than 26,000 other members who believe that public services – and the people who deliver them – matter.
