Friday 4 September, 2pm – 4pm
This event is intended for civil servants who feel ready for a career change and find themselves looking at a number of different approaches within the civil service as change is being introduced in assessment processes. We will look at the current use of Civil Service Success Profiles, with the nuances and differences in different parts of the UK Civil Service (including Scottish Government) as well as the Competency Framework in Northern Ireland Civil Service. We will also look at the emerging focus on ‘values’ and ‘potential’ and how that is currently tested in parts of the civil service, and where that may be coming into changes to the current system.

Monday 7 September, 9am – 11:30am
This fully interactive session will offer an outline of Strengths within Civil Service Success Profiles when used for recruitment, from the perspective of understanding what to expect as an interviewee. It is primarily aimed at civil servants who may need to understand the system when applying for roles or going through Gateways.
Monday 14 September, 10am – 12pm
This session will focus on preparing for interview and assessment in the civil service. It will take into account different approaches within the civil service as change is being introduced in assessment processes. We will look at the assessment processes using Civil Service Success Profiles, with the nuances and differences in different parts of the UK Civil Service (including Scottish Government) as well as the Competency Framework in Northern Ireland Civil Service. We will also look at the emerging focus on ‘values’ and ‘potential’ at interview.
Participants will consider different elements that they may encounter in an interview/ presentation as the Civil Service moves on from ‘interview only’ assessment processes to include presentations of different types and the Staff Engagement exercise (SEE). The session will aim to give participants an insight into what to expect and how to prepare to build confidence prior to assessment.
Tuesday 15 September, 9am – 12pm
This course will explore the use and presentation of responses to Behaviours questions at interview using the Civil Service Success Profiles approach. This will be particularly helpful to those in the Scottish Government for whom Civil Service Success Profiles have recently been introduced without the use of Strengths (and will reference the differences).
Thursday 24 September, 9am – 12pm
This course covers how to put together and draft an example of a Behaviour under the UK Civil Service Success Profiles recruitment system. You will be taken through what a Behaviour is, how you can structure your example and what you are trying to achieve, with tips on refining your drafting. There will be an introduction to Behaviours on the application form and the most commonly encountered ways vacancy holders ask for examples.
Monday 28 September, 10am – 12pm
This course will focus on preparing your application for roles in the civil service. It will take into account different approaches within the civil service as change is being introduced in assessment processes. We will look at application processes using civil service Success Profiles, with the nuances and differences in different parts of the UK Civil Service (including Scottish Government) as well as the Competency Framework in Northern Ireland Civil Service. We will also look at the emerging focus on ‘values’ and ‘potential’, focusing on possible components of the application form.
Thursday 8 October, 10am – 12pm
This event is intended for civil servants who feel ready for a career change but find the application processes can be a little daunting. We will look at the basics of applying for roles in the UK Civil Service, the Scottish and Welsh Governments and the Northern Ireland Civil Service (NICS). This session will consider application to assessment in a very quick run through.
