Managing disciplinary and grievance

Thursday 10 September, 11am – 12pm

The law requires employers to act fairly and reasonably when dealing with disciplinary and grievance issues. Poorly handled processes can be costly and time consuming. 

This event will provide you with the necessary skills and knowledge, including an overview of the Acas Code of Practice, enabling you to handle disciplinary and grievance matters confidently and correctly. 

Effective objective setting

Friday 11 September, 11am – 12pm

This event focuses primarily on personal objective setting and provides an insight into understanding the benefits of setting clear objectives as part of the performance management system; identifying strategies to overcome the challenges of setting objectives; understanding how to use the SMART framework, as well as being able to write and encourage others to write effective task and behaviour objectives within a performance management framework.  

Assertiveness and resilience

Wednesday 23 September, 1pm – 2pm

This session will take a look at some basic assertiveness techniques that can help you get your point across more effectively and say what you really want to say in a calm and effective manner.  We will link that up with a look at personal resilience and some suggestions about how to become more resilient in a way that helps you feel stronger and more confident. 

Functional review

Tuesday 29 September, 2pm – 3pm

This webinar looks at how you can use a functional review to strengthen the delivery capability of a specific area of an organisation.  The term ‘functional review’ is frequently used to describe a review of the ability of an institution to function, i.e., to meet objectives, to achieve results, to produce outputs, to define and solve problems.  If an institution can perform tasks but is not meeting its objectives and achieving results, it can be argued that it is not fully functioning.

Key skills for leadership – coaching, mentoring and mediation

This webinar will concentrate on approaches to develop your leadership and management skills. The world of leadership today in the Civil Service requires new skill sets such as coaching, mentoring and mediation. This introductory session will focus on looking at each of these skills and their key benefits and differences There will be a focus on both leading teams directly and also remotely, using your experience of working.  

Emotional intelligence and coaching as a civil service leadership strength

Wednesday 14 October, 11am – 12pm

This session looks at ways to develop and demonstrate your leadership in a rapidly changing civil service context. Coaching is becoming a key area of leadership and this session will look to introduce you to coaching, moving from short term informal coaching to a developed skill that demonstrates and utilises your emotional intelligence as a leadership strength.
